Founded by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell, the company now operates multiple locations across Oregon, including Newport, Portland, Astoria, and Salem.
The Newport location, known as Rogue World Headquarters, features a two-story brewpub overlooking Yaquina Bay and the marina. This venue offers a diverse selection of over 40 Rogue ales and lagers on tap, including specialty brews exclusive to this location.
Rogue's product lineup includes a variety of beers, spirits, and canned cocktails. Notable beers include Dead Guy Ale, a Maibock-style ale, and Shakespeare Stout, a robust stout. Pronto Pup, Rockaway Beach
Invented in 1939 by George Boyington in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, the Pronto Pup was created as a solution to a shortage of hot dog buns during a rainy Labor Day weekend. Boyington developed a batter that could be cooked on demand, leading to the creation of this iconic treat.
The name "Pronto Pup" reflects the quick cooking process, with "pronto" meaning "quick" in Italian. Unlike traditional corn dogs, which use a sweet cornbread batter, Pronto Pups are made with a savory batter similar to pancake mix, resulting in a less sweet flavor profile.
The first Pronto Pup was served at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland, Oregon, in 1941, where over 15,000 were sold. The Boyingtons trademarked the name in 1942 and began franchising the concept, leading to its widespread popularity at carnivals and fairs across the United States.

Now, let’s talk about the menu. Start with their fried cheese curds—crispy, golden, and perfectly bite-sized. These little morsels are a mouthful of gooey goodness, and the dipping sauce that accompanies them is the ideal complement. If you’re after something more substantial, you’ve got to try one of their grilled cheese sandwiches. The Drift Inn, Yachats
The Drift Inn in Yachats is no ordinary coastal pub—this spot has a history that’s as colorful and unpredictable as the tides rolling in. Established in 1927, it originally earned a reputation as a seedy, dark watering hole where sailors, loggers, and travelers would gather for a stiff drink, rowdy conversation, and a little bit of mischief. Picture this: dimly lit corners, smoke-filled air, and a steady stream of local characters who kept the place buzzing late into the night. If these walls could talk, they'd probably shouldn’t.
But what really sets the Drift Inn apart in the annals of Yachats history is its literary connection. Back in the '60s, the author Ken Kesey (yep, the one behind One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) found himself frequenting this very bar. In fact, it’s said that Kesey wrote parts of his iconic book right here in the Drift Inn, soaking in the vibes of the place, which must've been a perfect backdrop for the wild, free-spirited energy that flows through One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Talk about inspiration!
Today, while it’s cleaned up a bit, the Drift Inn still carries the remnants of its rowdy past, blending that quirky, rebellious spirit with the charm of a community gathering place. You can still grab a drink, dig into a local bite, and enjoy the atmosphere of a place that’s seen its fair share of history—and a bit of chaos. If you're looking for a spot with stories, the Drift Inn's got them in spades.
Tony’s Crab Shack, Bandon
Since 1989, this local favorite has been serving up award-winning fish tacos, fresh Dungeness crab, and other coastal delights. Their motto, "always fresh, never deep fried," speaks to their commitment to quality.
But Tony's isn't just about great food; it's also a hub for the community. They offer crab rings and boats for rent, encouraging families to head out to the docks and catch their own Dungeness crab. Once you've made your catch, bring it back to Tony's, and they'll clean and cook it for you. It's a hands-on experience that brings people together over a shared love of seafood.

After enjoying these tasty offerings, visitors can explore the nearby Neskowin Ghost Forest, a unique natural wonder. This ancient Sitka spruce forest, estimated to be around 2,000 years old, was unearthed during storms in the winter of 1997-98. The exposed stumps, preserved by saltwater, now stand as a testament to the area's rich history. The best time to view these stumps is during low tide in winter months, offering a glimpse into a prehistoric landscape.

When it comes to the food, The Schooner shines with its fresh seafood offerings. The Dungeness Crab Mac + Cheese is a standout—a creamy, decadent blend of crab meat and rich Tillamook cheddar cheeses that create the ultimate comfort dish. Of course, there’s also their Fish + Chips, made with cracker meal-crusted local cod, served with house-made tartar sauce and fries. For something a bit more refined, the Columbia River Coho, with fennel tapenade and seasonal veggies, is a must-try.
