Woodlark Hotel PDX

Travel Vlog- Portland 8/7/2024- @woodlark_hotel (hosted) “The House of Welcome”

I have a soft spot in my heart for historical buildings around Oregon. The Woodlark Hotel is no exception, comprised of two prominent PDX fixtures: The Woodlark Building built in 1908 (once one of the largest wholesale drug companies in the PNW) and The Cornelius Hotel- a luxury style destination popular among the well-to-do of 1908.

The Cornelius Hotel building features Abigail Hall, formerly The Ladies Reception Hall. This was a space where women could gather, socialize, and wait while their male counterparts conducted business or other affairs. During the early 1900s, separate spaces for women were common in upscale hotels.

During Prohibition (1920-1933), the space is believed to have been used as a speakeasy, like many other hidden venues in the city.

Today, the name @abigailhallpdx pays homage to Abigail Scott Duniway, a prominent suffragist, writer, and advocate for women’s rights in Oregon. Duniway was instrumental in helping Oregon women win the right to vote in 1912, and the naming of the space reflects a desire to honor her legacy.

The rooms and suites at Woodlark are designed to be

sophisticated and modern with a nod to the two building’s origins. The loft space was elegant, dreamy, and relaxing. I loved the spiral staircase and floor to ceiling windows.

Onsight dining include @bullardtavernpdx featuring local and seasonal fair and @roselinecoffee both options made it so simple to use as a (very stylish) homebase. We walked to see the @pdx.live Sleater- Kinney opening show. An unforgettable August night at @thesquarepdx.

This stay was -quintessentially Portland: unique, historic, beautiful, inspiring.
